Whiten Your Smile in Time for the Holidays

November 27, 2012

At this point, we don’t have to remind you about the impending holidays. You’re making plans already, figuring out where you’ll be for Christmas and New Year’s, what parties you’ll be attending, which friends or family you’ll be spending time with.

With all this going on, cosmetic dentistry might be the last thing on your mind. But just imagine how a whiter smile could improve your sense of confidence at the holiday get-togethers that are coming up.

At Giamberardino Dental Care in Medford, we offer convenient take-home teeth whitening for our patients to take advantage of. At-home teeth whitening yields professional results, and with less sensitivity than in-office whitening systems. What’s more, with take-home teeth whitening, you can whiten your teeth in the comfort of your own home and as your own schedule allows.

Cosmetic bonding and porcelain veneers are two other options to consider if you’re looking to brighten your smile.

Not sure which would be better for ? Let Dr. Giamberardino help you choose an option that works for your needs and your schedule. Call Giamberardino Dental Care today to reserve your appointment with us. Our office is located in Medford and serves patients from Winchester, Somerville, Malden, Everett, and beyond.

You don’t have to let embarrassing stains keep you from enjoying a more confident holiday season!

Take Advantage of Your Existing Dental Benefits Now, Before the Year Ends

November 13, 2012

We’re well into November now. That means, with less than two months to go until 2013, many patients will see their current dental benefits expire soon. Which is why we wanted to use today’s post to talk about what that means so you can make the most of what you have while you still have it.

For most plans, dental benefits don’t rollover from one year to the next. Instead, they’re renewed. That means you’ll be facing a new deductible next year that you’ll need to pay before your insurance company starts covering care. If you’ve paid your deductible for 2012, why put off important care till next year—when you’ll have a new deductible to pay—when you could do it now and benefit from the help your insurance provides?

Another reason to use your benefits now is that your premiums or co-pays may be different next year. Without knowing what they will be, it can be difficult to plan for next year. But because you know what your current fees are, you can make plans now for getting the care you need.

Do you already know you need care? Is it time for your next checkup and cleaning? Don’t wait until next year to get started. Call Giamberardino Dental Care in Medford today to reserve your appointment. Dr. Giamberardino and his office proudly serve patients from Medford, Winchester, Somerville, Malden, Everett, and beyond.

Finding a Mouthwash That’s Right for You

September 13, 2012

When dentists talk about oral care, brushing and flossing get most of the attention, while mouthwash may only get mentioned once in a while. That can make it hard to know if using a mouthwash is really all that important. Or, maybe you already know it is, but you don’t know what kind of mouthwash you should pick.

In today’s post, we’d like to take a look at both of these concerns and offer some advice you might find helpful the next time you feel lost in your grocery store or pharmacy’s oral hygiene aisle.

Is it important to use a mouthwash?

Because everyone’s smile is different, we can only answer this question very broadly by saying yes, it is. Of course, brushing and flossing will always be the most effective means of keeping teeth clean, but a good antibacterial mouthwash can give your smile extra protection and can potentially reach corners of your smile that are hard to brush consistently. But even though a mouthwash is like an extra layer of protection, you should never think of it as an alternative to regular care. Brushing and flossing should always come first.

What kind of mouthwash should I choose?

The answer to that question will depend on what your needs are, but a general rule of thumb is to look for an antibacterial mouthwash. That’s because antibacterial mouthwashes are designed to combat bacteria and plaque and protect gums from gingivitis.

But an antibacterial mouthwash isn’t the only option out there. Some mouthwashes use fluoride to help patients strengthen teeth and protect them from decay. Others are used to minimize bad breath, sensitivity, or the appearance of teeth stains. Still others are made to treat symptoms of dry mouth. So to answer that question, you have to know what your individual needs are first.

If you’ve given the question some thought but you still aren’t sure, you can always ask Dr. Giamberardino or a member of our Giamberardino Dental Care team to recommend one to you. We’re always ready to help our patients from Medford, Winchester, Somerville, Malden, Everett, and beyond. Call us today with your questions or to schedule an appointment.

Have You Scheduled Your Child’s Back-to-School Visit?

August 30, 2012

For many kids, late August marks the end of that sacred time known as summer vacation and signals the start of a new school year. And with a new school year comes months of homework, projects, tests, and extracurricular activities, all of which can leave little time for a dental exam and cleaning with Dr. Giamberardino. So why not schedule your child’s back-to-school checkup now instead of later?

It’s true the beginning of a new school year is also a busy time—you have new clothes and school supplies to buy, on top of making sure there aren’t any last-minute things to take care of. But as busy as life might currently be, isn’t it better to schedule a checkup now, before all the demands of school make time even more scarce?

What to Expect from a Back-to-School Checkup

A back-to-school checkup may not be any different from a normal checkup, but that doesn’t make it any less important. Especially with the holidays coming up, you want to make sure that your child’s teeth are in great shape.

During your child’s back-to-school checkup, Dr. Giamberardino will take a close look at your son or daughter’s smile to check for signs of common oral health problems. We’ll also take X-rays so we can get an even clearer look at how your child’s smile is doing. Then, after a comprehensive exam and a professional cleaning, we can recommend a follow-up service if we need to.

Are You Ready to Schedule Your Child’s Next Visit?

If you are, don’t hesitate to call our team at Giamberardino Dental Care in Medford today. We’re always happy to help patients of any age achieve optimal oral health. We serve patients from Winchester, Somerville, Malden, Everett, and surrounding areas.

August 9, 2012

Time changes how you look and feel, but it also impacts your smile. Besides causing teeth to become stained, aging—and other factors, like decay or gum disease—can also cause teeth to weaken or fall out. But at Giamberardino Dental Care, we’re making smiles new again every day using some of the latest and most effective restorative services available anywhere.

Our services include dental implants, CEREC crowns, porcelain veneers, and much more.

Making Smiles New Again

One of the most effective services Dr. Giamberardino can offer his Medford-area patients is dental implants. With dental implants, it’s possible to replace both a missing tooth and a missing root. What’s more, implants are a versatile option—you can use them to replace just one tooth, a group of teeth, or an entire row.

Dental implants aren’t for everyone, though. That’s why our Medford office also features cosmetic services like porcelain veneers, and cosmetic-restorative services like crowns. Using our CEREC machine, we can create custom-milled porcelain crowns in about an hour, right in our office.

Why Do Teeth Become Discolored?

May 10, 2012

In our last blog post, we talked briefly about the teeth whitening options available at Giamberardino Dental Care. In today’s post, we’ll look at the question posed in the title: why do teeth become discolored in the first place?

There’s no single reason. Instead, teeth discoloration is the result of several combined factors, including:

  • Foods
  • Beverages (coffees, teas, sodas, and wines)
  • Aging
  • Medications (tetracycline)
  • Excessive fluoride use
  • Genetics

One way to avoid stains is to cut back on, or even avoid, foods that are known to contribute to them. In cases where discoloration may be genetic, though, avoiding specific foods or drinks may not help. The same can also be said of brushing and flossing. While brushing and flossing are great for your oral health, they aren’t guaranteed to make your smile whiter.

Which is why, if you’ve dreamed of having a whiter smile, we recommend scheduling an appointment with our Medford office. During just a short appointment with Dr. Giamberardino, we can examine your smile and recommend a treatment that will be able to help you. In some cases, it may not be in-office or at-home teeth whitening. In other cases, it may be that a different cosmetic dentistry option would be better, like porcelain veneers or cosmetic bonding.

Get started on your smile makeover today. Call Giamberardino Dental Care to schedule your appointment. We serve patients from Medford, Winchester, Somerville, Malden, Everett, and surrounding areas.

What Should I Expect from My First Visit at Giamberardino Dental Care?

May 8, 2012

Is your upcoming visit to Giamberardino Dental Care also your first? If so, we’d like to let you know what you can expect.

First, we want you to feel welcome. Our team will do that by spending some time getting to know you and making sure you’re absolutely comfortable. Simply feeling welcome can do a lot to dispel any anxiety a first visit may stir up.

Once you’re seated comfortably in our dental chair, and you’ve had a chance to get to know Dr. Giamberardino, we’ll begin your oral exam. During your exam, we’ll take a close look at your teeth, gums, head, neck, jaw, and bite to see how everything looks. We’ll also take X-rays so we can get a better look at how your smile’s doing. If we need to, we can also take images of your teeth and gums with our intraoral camera. With advanced tools like these, it’s much easier for Dr. Giamberardino to educate patients about their smiles.

After your exam, you can expect us to complete a professional cleaning. Why is a professional cleaning so important? Because as great as your daily brushing and flossing routine might be, it takes a professional cleaning to really get teeth at their cleanest. A professional cleaning also gives our hygienist a chance to check your gums for signs of gum disease and offer valuable oral health tips.

Do You Still Have Questions About Your First Visit?

If you still have questions about what you can expect from a first visit, give Giamberardino Dental Care a call today. We’d be happy to talk with you about your appointment. And if you haven’t yet, be sure to complete our new patient form before coming to see us.

From all of us at Giamberardino Dental Care, we look forward to meeting you!
